The Boring Company (TBC) hosted an engineer recruitment event this week at its Bastrop, Texas facility. In a post commemorating the event and those who came, the company also noted that talks lasted significantly longer than initially planned, calling them “fun/intense engineering discussions.”

On Friday, TBC shared photos from its Engineering Demo Day event on X, saying that the event was scheduled for just an hour and a half and adding that discussions ended up lasting about four hours. The Elon Musk-led company said the talks were about Prufrock, its massive tunneling machine, and the device’s “path to rapidly tunnel 10,000+ miles.”

The company also thanked attendees for staying late to be a part of the discussions.

The post included two photos, one showing a crowd standing around the Prufrock III, the machine’s latest generation, outside the Bastrop warehouse. The other photo is from inside the warehouse, showing the other side of the enormous tunneling device.

The event was initially announced last month as a recruitment event for Mechanical, Electrical and Software Engineers, with TBC sharing a link for interested parties to request an invitation. The company offered limited, first-come-first-served invites for the event, and the photos show a relatively small group of attendees totaling around 60-80 people.

The first major tunneling project from TBC is taking place in Las Vegas, with the Prufrock I and II units creating a number of underground loops connecting various points in the city to the Las Vegas Convention Center. Currently, TBC is preparing to debut a new Vegas loop station near the Encore’s valet entrance next year. Once complete, the Encore station will bring passengers to the Convention Center station in about a minute.

On its website, TBC details its Prufrock tunneling machines:

“Prufrock is designed to ‘porpoise,’ meaning it launches directly from the surface, mines underground, and re-emerges upon completion. This allows Prufrock to begin tunneling within 48 hours of arrival onsite and eliminates the need to excavate expensive pits to launch and retrieve the machine.

“Prufrock is designed to tunnel at a speed greater than 1 mile per week, which is 6 times faster than The Boring Company’s previous generation TBM (Godot+). This is still 4-5 times slower than a garden snail…but Prufrock is catching up!

“Prufrock’s medium-term goal is to exceed 1/10 of human walking speed, which is 7 miles per day.”

The Boring Company shares quick glimpse at Prufrock III in new photo

The Boring Company (TBC) crew worked over the weekend, making progress on the Vegas Loop’s Riviera pit site. The tunnel TBC is building now will eventually lead to the Harry Reid International Airport.

Local independent source Michel, or @Mic_VegasSphere on X, provided an update on the construction of The Boring Company’s Vegas Loop. On Friday last week, Michel saw that a part of the tunnel—returning from the Vegas Loops Westgate station—was already built in the Riviera pit.

“They reach out currently between the Convention Center and Encore, Resorts World, and the Westgate,” replied Michel to a commenter who asked where The Boring Company tunnels were leading. “This current tunnel under construction is the return to the Westgate. The next tunnel will go to the Stratospheres, and then the Strip to Allegiant stadium and eventually the airport,” he shared.

While The Boring Company crew works on the Riviera pit, it may also be preparing to launch the next Vegas Loop station. The Wynn Las Vegas Resort expects Elon Musk’s tunneling company to start operations on the Encore station early next year. In July, TBC announced that Prufrock-2 arrived at Encore Resort. In the same month, Prufrock-1 arrived at Westgate.

The Vegas Loop station will be connected to The Boring Company’s Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) Loop. The Tesla shuttles from the Westgate station will surface at the Riviera station located at the Las Vegas Convention Center’s West Hall Parking lot.

“The Vegas Loop will provide fast and convenient transportation to the Las Vegas community, its visitors, and beyond. The Vegas Loop will include the LVCC Loop and any future service extensions, including those to casinos along the Strip, Harry Reid International Airport, Allegiant Stadium, downtown Las Vegas, and eventually to Los Angeles. Once complete, the Vegas Loop will transport more than 90,000 passengers per hour,” explained The Boring Company.

The Boring Company (TBC) plans to hold Engineering Demo Day later this month for Mechanical, Electrical, and software engineers interested in working in Bastrop, Texas.

“The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions,” noted The Boring Company.

TBC’s Engineering Demo Day is scheduled for September 28th from 6 PM to 8 PM CT. Engineers interested in attending the event must register to receive an invitation. Unfortunately, The Boring Company is handing out a limited number of invitations.

Engineers who want an invitation to The Boring Company’s Engineering Demo Day can submit their information through the link in the company’s tweet about the event.

Last month, The Boring Company held a recruiting event for electrical technicians in Bastrop, Texas. The event invited electrical technicians opportunities to work with The Boring Company’s tunnel boring machine (TBM), Prufrock.

Last year, The Boring Company raised $675 million in Series C funding led by Vy Capital and Sequoia Capital. The tunneling company plans to use the $675 million investment to recruit, scale up machine production, and build more tunnels.

TBC’s biggest tunneling project is the Vegas Loop in Sin City. The company is working on tunnels leading to Encore and Westgate, which connect to the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) via TBC’s LVCC Loop. It recently proposed a tunnel to the Strat in Las Vegas.

The Boring Company (TBC) pitched a new Vegas Loop tunnel that travels between the Strat and the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).

According to The Las Vegas Review-Journal, The Boring Company submitted a commercial building permit application to Clark County for a potential station to Strat. Country records revealed the proposed tunnel between Strat and the LVCC is valued at $2.4 million.

The Boring Company recently applied to expand its Vegas Loop tunnel system, doubling its size. The expansion would result in the Vegas Loop spanning 65 miles of tunnels across 69 stations reaching up to the Las Vegas city limits.

The Vegas Loop’s tunnel between Resorts World and the LVCC Loop—which transports passengers throughout the convention center’s halls—started operations last summer.

The Boring Company is simultaneously working on tunnels leading to Encore and Westgate. The Encore and Westgate tunnels will also connect to the LVCC Loop.

TBC plans to build a second tunnel at Encore, Westgate, and Resorts World to provide trips to other resorts and the convention center simultaneously.

“We’d also like to complete the second tunnel at Resorts World, because that matters,” shared Steve Hill, the President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention Visitors Authority.

“Then the second tunnel to build to Westgate and then hopefully next summer we can build a second tunnel to Wynn (Encore). We don’t really want these two directional single tunnels, but you’ve got to build the first one to build the second one. We want to build them both,” Hill said.

The Boring Company (TBC) is hard at work with the construction of its Vegas Loop. Progress on the expansive underground network was recently shared online.

Michel—whose X handle is @Mic_VegasSphere—recently shared pictures with TBC’s crew in the Riviera pit. The images reveal that the pit is within sight of Encore.

In July 2023, Prufrock-2 arrived at Encore on Las Vegas Boulevard. Around the same time, Prufrock-1 arrived at Westgate.

The Westgate and Encore stations are the subsequent phases of TBC Vegas Loop development. From TBC’s map depicting tunnel routes, the Westgate station connects two stations at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC): the LVCC-Riviera Station and the LVCC-Central Station.

From the LVCC-Riviera Station, passengers can get to Resorts World and the LVCC-West Station. Meanwhile, passengers can get to Encore and the LVCC-South Station from the LVCC-Central Station.

The arrivals of Prufrock-2 and Prufrock-1 at their designated destinations marked significant progress in The Boring Company’s Vegas Loop buildout. The surfacing of both tunnel boring machines showed the difference in speed between Prufrock-1 and the updated Prufrock-2.

Prufrock-2 took 10 weeks to mobilize, launch, and tunnel 2,350 feet underground. TBC did not need a crane to retrieve Prufrock-2 since the new TBM could porpoise or break through the surface for easy retrieval. Meanwhile, Prufrock-1 took 10 weeks just to launch.

The Wynn Las Vegas Resorts expects TBC to start operations at its Encore station by early 2024. The new Vegas Loop station is located near Encore’s Valet entrance. The Encore station will allow passengers to reach the Las Vegas Convention Center in approximately one minute.

The Boring Company (TBC) recently announced an invite-only recruiting event for jobs in Bastrop, Texas. TBC’s recruiting event will occur on August 30, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The invite-only recruiting event is for electrical technicians in the area. The Boring Company asks interested technicians to submit a form by August 28, 2023, at p.m. PST.

“We will be hosting an on-site event for Electrical Technicians to learn more about The Boring Company and have the opportunity to join our team and beat the snail with our proprietary Tunnel Boring Machine, Prufrock!” Noted The Boring Company

Invitations are limited for the event, so they will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis by The Boring Company’s Human Resources team.

The company offers employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, paid holidays, paid vacation, and competitive equity for permanent employees.

The lucky technicians who receive invitations to the event get the opportunity to see The Boring Company’s Prufrock-3. The company shared a glimpse of Prufrock 3 on X in March 2023. At the time, Prufrock-2 had just completed another Bastrop tunnel, and Prufrock-3 was in the background.

In April 2022, TBC raised $675 million in Series C funding to recruit employees, scale machine production, and build tunnels. The electrical technicians recruiting might be the first of many as The Boring Company expands.

The Boring Company’s (TBC) next Vegas Loop station will launch in 2024. The Wynn Las Vegas Resort expects TBC’s Encore station to start operations early next year.

Earlier this week, The Boring Company stated that Prufrock-2 arrived at Encore Resort, achieving a new milestone for TBC’s Vegas Loop project. The late tunnel boring machine (TBM) set a new record, too, as it could mobilize, launch, and bore underground in only 10 weeks. Prufrock-2 tunneled through 2,350 feet of earth before resurfacing near Encore Resort.

Following The Boring Company’s announcement, Wynn Resorts announced that work is ongoing at the new Vegas Loop station near Encore’s valet entrance. Once the Encore Station is operational, passengers from the Wynn Resort can reach the Las Vegas Convention Center in approximately one minute.

According to a spokesperson, The Vegas Loop’s Encore stations would ” provide guests with a zero-emissions underground public transportation alternative.” The Boring Company will likely use Tesla vehicles to transport passengers from the Encore station to the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) as it does in the LVCC Loop.

“The tunnel is the latest enhancement in Wynn’s continued commitment to offering eco-friendly meetings and conventions in Las Vegas,” said the Wynn Resorts spokesperson.

Once completed, the Vegas Loop is expected to have a capacity to handle more than 90,000 passengers per hour. The Boring Company estimates rides along the Vegas Loop could cost between $5 to $12

A leaked video showing what is allegedly a prototype of a Tesla-made people mover for tunneling startup The Boring Company has emerged online. If the vehicle in the video is indeed the tunneling startup’s people mover, it will make the Boring Company’s tunnels look pretty futuristic.

The footage was shared online by Las Vegas video content creator Jacob Orth, who noted that the short clip was captured from inside the startup’s Las Vegas site. The content creator described the vehicle as a “secret Tesla van prototype designed for Elon Musk’s Vegas Loop.”

As could be seen in the video, the alleged people mover features 12 passenger seats and one driver’s seat. Interestingly enough, the driver’s seat had a Tesla steering wheel. The vehicle’s roof looks very tall as well, which should make it easy for some passengers to stand without any issues. The vehicle’s apparent low profile and fully flat interior would make it quite friendly for passengers on wheelchairs as well.

While the leaked video could not be verified as a legitimate Tesla or Boring Company project for now, its design and form does align with what the companies and Elon Musk have mentioned in the past. It does, for one, resemble a people mover concept teased by The Boring Company way back in 2017. The vehicle in question teased in the Boring Company’s video also featured a body that’s mostly glass, as well as a tall roof that makes it easy for passengers to stand and walk around.

It should be noted that the idea of a dedicated people mover for The Boring Company has actually been explored even before the tunneling startup posted its teaser video. Elon Musk’s Master Plan Part Deux, for one, mentioned that Tesla was also looking to electrify “high passenger density urban transport.” A transport pod similar to what was seemingly teased in the video seems to fit the bill for a high density urban transport.

The Boring Company’s Loop tunnels are intended to be a more efficient and more affordable alternative to conventional solutions such as subways. And while the Loop built in Las Vegas today proves that the concept is solid, the system at its current state is not at its full potential, thanks in no small part to its use of regular Tesla vehicles. With a high density urban transport vehicle in place, the Loop would likely be able to transport significantly more passengers.

The Boring Company’s (TBC) Prufrock-2 set a new milestone after reaching Encore and Westgate near the Las Vegas Strip in 10 weeks. Prufrock-2’s arrival in Westgate marks another milestone for TBC’s Vegas Loop.

On Monday, The Boring Company announced that Prufrock-2 and Prufrock-1 arrived at Encore on Las Vegas Boulevard and Westgate, respectively. Prufrock-2’s progress toward Encore showed TBC’s significant development of its tunnel boring machine (TBM).

The Boring Company’s updated TBM took 10 weeks to mobilize, launch, tunnel 2,350 feet underground, and retrieve. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the TBM used for the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) Loop, called GODOT, took 10 weeks to launch.

The arrival of Prufrock-1 at Westgate and Prufrock-2 at Encore marks significant milestones for the tunneling company’s Vegas Loop project. TBC aims to open the Westgate station of the Vegas Loop by the summer. Vegas Loop station will be connected to the Las Vegas Convention Center via the LVCC Loop. The Westgate station will surface at the Riviera station located at the Las Vegas Convention Center’s West Hall parking lot.

Elon Musk’s tunneling company recently received approval from the Las Vegas planning commission to expand the Vegas Loop’s route.

“It’s gonna change the way that we travel up and down the boulevard and hopefully to the airport and to Allegiant Stadium and everything else. I love that we have the connectivity and downtown and the Medical District and everything,” said Commissioner Trinity Haven Schlottman.

The Boring Company (TBC) is shipping its Burnt Hair perfume to customers now. Like most of the billionaire’s products, Elon Musk’s perfume sold out within hours when it launched.

“We’ve burned through nearly all available puns by now so we’ll get straight to the point: shipping is finally hair!

“That’s right, your bottle may already be on its way to you by the time you read this email. International shipments will take slightly long to arrive,” wrote The Boring Company to customers.

Elon Musk’s tunneling company also reached out to Burnt Hair customers in May. At the time, TBC told customers that it had started the Burnt Hair assembly line and planned to start shipment in June. With only a few days until July 2023, TBC is on target with its shipment goals.

The Boring Company’s Burnt Hair perfume is available through the tunneling company’s website. The uniquely-named scent costs around $100 per bottle.

Musk has stated the Burnt Hair perfume will be limited. He suggested that TBC would only make around 30,000 bottles of Burnt hair, immediately making it a collector’s item.
